Lawyer Michael Knaus

Michael Knaus was born in Schwäbisch Hall in 1955 and grew up in Michelfeld near Schwäbisch Hall. After graduating from the St. Michael Grammar School in Schwäbisch Hall and completing his military service, he studied at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. After passing the first state law examination, he completed his legal clerkship at the District Court of Ellwangen, the District Court of Crailsheim and the District Office of Schwäbisch Hall.

Michael Knaus worked in public administration for almost 40 years at the District Office of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, the Regional Councils of Freiburg and Leipzig, the Ministry of State of Baden-Württemberg and as the State Managing Director of the Badisches Rotes Kreuz (Red Cross) in Freiburg.

Before his retirement in 2020, he was appointed by the Prime Minister of the State of Baden-Württemberg as the permanent general representative of the district administrator in the Neckar-Odenwald district from 2001 and in the same capacity in the district of Schwäbisch Hall from 2008. He was admitted to the bar in October 2021. His areas of expertise include all aspects of public administrative law, in particular environmental law, but also construction and municipal law. As the chair of an examination board for the driving instructor profession, road traffic and driving licence law is one of his main areas of expertise.
